Chronology of cameras Girard
Traduction de Daniel C
The vertical versions of the camera “Le Rêve Idéal” followed the horizontal ones around 1904. It seems that some horizontal versions were manufactured and sold in parallel with the vertical ones.
The camera “Le Rêve Idéal” can be used with both rollfilm (with the back) and plates. This version shows the same manufacturing seriousness. It seems that the leather is less subject to unsticking.
This first model (as per the advertisements) is fitted with a reversible viewfinder the location of which is quite unusual on the vertical cameras, but which is usual on horizontal ones (e.g. horizontal Kodaks). The lens is a "Bi-Anastigmat H. Roussel". The shutter is engraved « Le Rêve” and allows for the following exposure times: T B 1 2 5 25 50 100.
The columns supporting the lens block are articulated in order to ease the closing of the bed.
Rise, fall and shift motions are available.
There are two distances graduations, one for use with the back and the second for use without it..
The folder shown on this page is incomplete as the viewfinder and back are missing ( coll AS) Despite the missing back, the camera seems complete because one of the main characteristic of the “Rêve Idéal” is to be usable as a rollfilm camera (with the back) or as a plate camera (without the back).
